About
Adventure Works is a non-profit, interactive youth development and counseling agency that serves all youth by providing individual, family, and group counseling, as well as prevention and education services through adventure. ? A proven alternative to talk therapy, Adventure Works is committed to offering the evidence-based approach to counseling known as Adventure Therapy and Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare. Based in outdoor and experiential education, sessions are safely structured to encourage healthy risk taking in a sometimes unfamiliar setting. Our adventure-based initiatives create opportunities to develop problem-solving skills, self-regulation, and feelings of accomplishment, ultimately promoting positive behavior changes when a learning experience is transferred to another life experience. Goals of Adventure Therapy often include developing social skills, reducing behavioral problems (such as delinquency, substance abuse, and interpersonal problems within school, family, and social settings), assisting with psychological problems and enhancing psychological resilience and emotional regulation. Our outcomes measurement is proving over time that Adventure. Works. Our organization holds membership in the Association of Experiential Education, with professional affiliation in the Therapeutic Adventure Professional Group (TAPG), and is one of twenty-two organizational members on the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Council (OBHC). Lynette Spencer, Adventure Works' Executive Director, is currently serving as a woman in a leadership role in both organizations. She is Secretary for TAPG Leadership Council, Co-Chair of Membership and the Secretary for OBHC. Adventure Works is currently in the process of gaining AEE Accreditation as an Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare program.
